Delegating tasks, how to do it right?

When running a company, especially an international one, it is worth coming to terms with the fact that you can not do everything yourself. The key to continuously growing profits and conquering new markets, is delegating tasks. If you started your business on your own, you may not like to delegate what you feel is important to you and for the further fate of your business. However, a good delegation of tasks is not a loss of control, but the opportunity to deal with what really matters. Find out how to delegate tasks wisely and what mistakes to avoid.

Abilities

Before you start delegating tasks, familiarize yourself carefully with the predispositions and skills that your employees possess. It’s often the case, that your most trusted employee doesn’t necessarily have the right competencies to carry out a certain task. Take a close look at the people you work with. Determine not only what they know but take also into account their personality qualities. Not everyone will perform well in tasks executed in crisis situations, just as not everyone will find satisfaction with simple, undemanding duties.

Adjust the tasks you delegate to the real skills of employees, and you will quickly see the results.

Trust

Most likely, there are some employees that you sympathize with more, than with others. You also have some that you know you can trust 100%, and that’s a very big value for you and your business. Keep in mind, however, that you can’t delegate tasks just on the basis of trust. A common mistake when delegating is to overburden those employees whom we trust, at the same time as we do not allow those who have not yet proven their trustworthiness to spread their wings. Measure your strength against intentions, delegate trusted employees to tasks that require loyalty and confidentiality, but make sure that they do not feel too burdened and do not work beyond their capacity.

Uncertainty

When delegating tasks, we are very often accompanied by uncertainty and the feeling that we will do everything better by ourselves. It’s a vicious circle that leads to excessive control. That’s why you delegate tasks to free up yourself and have more time to be able to take care of what is most important. Adopt an attitude that allows not only to trust your employees, but above all, to believe in their abilities. Delegate tasks, but do not allow a situation where you waste too much time controlling the effects. Set one day a week or month when you check the effects, do not control every minute of the work of your subordinates!

Transparency

Keep these things in mind when delegating tasks, but also think about tools that can make it easier for you to communicate information. Well-delegated tasks are those that are clear and transparent to the employee. Do not allow a situation in which the employee receives a task and does not know how to perform it. Information about delegated tasks should be clear, specific, and in addition, in your opinion, it is to make sure that the employee knows what you expect from him.
