Professions of the future in Sweden

The job market is developing at a rapid pace, and within a few years a large part of the duties that until now have been performed by people will be automated and carried out by machines. How does this situation relate to the development of the job market in Sweden? Which professions will be the most progressive ones and ensure a good position without the fear that machines will replace us at any moment?

Midwife

Being a midwife requires completing university studies and obtaining admission to practice. According to reports on future professions, it is estimated that this will be one of Sweden’s most desirable professions. A midwife’s standard competences include diagnosing pregnancy, caring for the pregnant woman, carrying out delivery and puerperium, and examining and caring for a new-born baby up to 6 weeks of age. However, reports also indicate that competences such as dietetic counselling during pregnancy, preparation for becoming a parent or prevention of women’s diseases will become even more desirable.

Primary school teacher

Studies on future professions also point to shortages in the teaching staff at the early school stage. This will be a very desirable profession because currently, less people are willing to choose this career path while Sweden is a country where great importance is paid to good education of children already from an early age.

Programmer

It is not surprising that the list of future professions includes programmers. This appears probably in all future profession reports in every country. Due to the dynamic development of technology, programmers will be indispensable on the job market in order to create yet more complex programs, for yet many years

Carpenter

Thinking about the jobs of the future, do you think of professions related to medical care, science or technology? If you think that only such career paths will be desirable in the coming years, you are wrong. As many reports and studies indicate, some of the most needed professions will also include those that do not require higher education. It is estimated that in the next few years, Sweden will have a shortage of people specializing in… carpentry!

Dentist

It cannot however be denied that the professions of the future are those that are associated with broadly understood medical care. Probably, still for many years, people will not want to undergo medical treatments controlled by robots. Therefore, the medical profession will enjoy great success for many years to come and we will not be replaced by robots. This, due to the fact, that when it comes to our life and health, we still put more trust in other people rather then decide for an operation to be carried out using only the machines.

Civil Engineer

In Sweden, civil engineering specialists are also expected to enjoy great popularity. It is a discipline of engineering and technical sciences that focuses on adjusting Earth’s surface to the needs of human life. Applies to, among other, constructing and erecting buildings or structures such as bridges, roads and canals.

Electrician

As with carpentry specialists, there may be a shortage of electricians in Sweden. Undoubtedly, this is a field necessary for everyone’s life, and thus this will be of great demand in the future. Unfortunately, reports indicate that fewer and fewer people want to specialize in the field of electricity, while this certainly being the profession of the future on the Swedish labour market.

Over 30% of future careers in Sweden will be associated with industries such as healthcare, engineering, teaching and business. Each of these professions requires knowledge and skills at the expert level, because you will need the best specialists in your profession. However, the results of many studies regarding future careers indicate that over 60% of the professions in which people will specialize in the next 10-15 years… have not even been created yet!

Garbage Designer

Due to the growing need to focus on ecology and caring for the natural environment, one of the future jobs is the garbage designer. What will this specialist do? Finding new applications for already used materials or redesigning entire companies so that their products are easy to process by other companies.

Digital Death Manager

It is said that nothing ever disappears on the Internet and we are not as anonymous as it may seem. Therefore, it is estimated that more and more people will want to give up their online lives. However, how to do it to get rid of all available information about you and leave nothing about yourself on the net? This is what the Digital Death Manager will do to help end our lives online.

The issue of future occupations will certainly change dynamically over the years and it is difficult to know which professions have a good future guaranteed. In fact, we do not yet know about the existence of the majority, and it is those that in the future will dominate the global labour market.
